ABOUT

My name is William Duke. I’m a Sydney-based writer, filmmaker, and actor. I write stories that tap into something both playful and lethal in human nature. Rivalries, games, obsessions. I admire the transgressive, knotty dynamics often given to women on screen, and I’m interested in what happens when male characters are pushed into that same volatile territory.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts (Dramatic Writing) from NIDA and a Bachelor of Arts (English & Film Studies) from the University of Sydney, where I received the Dalyell Scholarship.

I’ve written, produced, and performed in three original productions for the stage, including my one-man show
Killing Mr. Barber, which had its world premiere at Sydney Fringe 2022 and sold out its entire run.

My recent works include
Test Region, a psychological science-fiction short film set in the Australian bush, and Alas, Poor Mummy!, a queer farce that was People’s Choice Award Winner and Gala Finalist at Short+Sweet Festival 2025.
